Abstract
In this chapter we present collective analytical sessions designed for the training of early childhood educators. The training programme is based on the examination of scenes of everyday work activities with children, which were video-recorded in situ by the educators, and aims at developing analytical competences as well as the ability to facilitate training sessions. Given the assumption that participants in the training display a ‘motivated looking’ on the data, the chapter explores the specificities of the implemented training method in order to distinguish it from canonical (and unmotivated) data-session. It also examines how these distinctive characteristics allow educators to display and mobilise their professional knowledge, which contributes to the identification and description of interactional competence in the observed data. A particular attention is given to the available training tools (video, transcriptions, methodological concepts) as tools to elaborate and enhance their analytical reasoning.
