Abstract
This contribution focuses on contact-induced change (Seifart 2019, i.e. Ch. 2 in vol. 1) while adopting a multimodal perspective (Stivers and Sidnell 2005), that is, it not only considers the use of lexical and grammatical resources but also the use of gesture, gaze and prosody. Using Andean Spanish as a case study, this chapter discusses recent approaches to multimodal interaction in the Andes region and offers an example of how we may approach language contact situation from this perspective.
