An international conference AC²D – Conversation Analysis: Technologies, Data & Devices will take place at Université de Montpellier Paul-Valéry from 8 to 10 June 2027. Building on ethnomethodologically informed conversation analysis, the conference will address contemporary transformations of interactional settings in contexts shaped by the digitalisation of practices, the spread of new technical devices and the development of interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration.
Conversation analysis in the ethnomethodological tradition was built, from its very beginnings, on settings where social action is structured by forms of material, institutional and technological organization. AC2D takes this founding orientation as its starting point, and asks what becomes of it when institutions go digital, when technical devices multiply, and when research itself becomes a collaborative, cross-professional endeavor.
The conference brings together researchers in ethnomethodology and conversation analysis (EMCA) around three thematic strands: the disciplinary heritage and its encounters with emerging data, technologized environments and their interactional infrastructures, and interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration. Working languages are French, English, and Spanish.
