Abstract
Conversation analysis is an approach to the study of direct interaction between persons. The focus on conduct within interaction, and the full range of communicative resources used in that context (language, prosody, body behavior, etc.), distinguishes it from varieties of discourse analysis concerned with speeches, narratives, or texts. This chapter provides a brief introduction to the methods of data collection, transcription, and analysis used in conversation analysis.
